When we are unable to successfully deliver an email (invitation, ecard, message, etc.), this is noted in the news & comments stream in the event/ecard report. You will see the message, "We were unable to deliver email message to GUEST NAME at EMAIL ADDRESS".
This means that the email message we sent to the intended recipient was "bounced" back to us by the mail system that is responsible for receiving email for that recipient There are many possible reasons for this, including:
- The email address was entered incorrectly
- The email account no longer exists
- The "receiving" mail system is experiencing technical issues
When this happens, you will see a link item in the event/ecard report called "Fix bounces", with the number of bounces in brackets beside the link. This "Fix bounces" link is located in the event/ecard stats section of the report. If you have incorrectly entered the email address, or want to resend the email to an alternate email address, you can do this by clicking the link. This will open the "fix bounces" screen which will prompt you to enter new email addresses for recipients whose messages have "bounced", and allow you to easily resend the emails. You will also be able to delete the addresses on that page.
Fixing bounced emails from the Bounce Report
If you have any bounced emails for an invitation/ecard, you will receive a Bounce Report email. Within the email you'll see the link to visit the Fix Bounces Page. If you are logged into your account when you click the link, you will be taken directly to the Fix Bounces Page for your event and you can proceed from Step 4 below. If you are not logged in, you will be redirected to the homepage. In that case, you should follow the instructions below for fixing bounces starting at Step 1.
To see and fix bounced emails for an event:
- Log into your account
- Click the event in your dashboard
- Click the "Fix Bounces" link
- Enter the new or corrected email address in the text field under the heading "New Email Address"
- Click the "select guests" button
After Step 5 above, the email addresses you just corrected will be selected; they are considered "unsent" guests/recipients. When you are ready to proceed, click the "send" button. This will take you to the confirmation page. When you are ready to send the invitation or ecard to those guests, click the "send now" button and your invitation or ecard will be sent.
Please note that entries regarding bounced emails will appear only in the news & comments stream of your "event report". The entry will not appear in the news & comments stream on the event web page and is not visible to guests.
